Things I like Thursdays Mar 1

Greetings!

sAY WHAT?? March??

Oh dear, time is just flyin by for some reason.

Here are my likes for this week:

1.  THE KIDS AT STONEMAN DOUGLAS HIGH SCHOOL IN FLORIDA.  They are more mature than most adults I know . Or certainly, more mature than many who are in our government. And, they don't give up. I'm just blown away by their honesty, intelligence and perseverance.

2. A fun girl's day out. My daughter, daughter -in- law and myself took an entire day for fun together.   Pedicures in the morning at a new salon:

I forgot to take a photo of the place! It was an old (about 100 years) cottage in downtown Glendale, Az that the owner had changed the inside rooms to various spa amenities. The ladies were all very nice and we had a good time.    Then we had lunch at Applebees.

After that, we went to our main event for the day:

Community Musical Theater- my favorite way to spend the day!  This is an older show but the cast was just soooo good. I had tears in my eyes when it ended. If it comes to your city-go and see it.

3.A good Gluten Free cake mix.  I found this at Fry's (Krogers in some cities). Many mixes have not panned out well for me.  When I had my old condo with a big kitchen, I baked much more than I do now.  In fact, I made all my own GF flour mixes, bread etc.  I no longer do that.  I did find a good bread at Sprouts and use Betty Crocker GF Bisquick mix.  Gluten free products already made are at least twice the cost of regular products. So, when I find a good mix I can keep in the pantry, I want everyone to know and for me to remember. hee hee

This cake was every good as a regular one and easy.

4.  Serengeti pillows to match my quilt. I didn't have the right color pillows for the sofa so I luckily had left over scraps from the quilt to make these pillows.

Just in case you  hadn't seen enough photos of this Serengeti.

5. Nurses at the doctor's office who go way out of there way to treat us with respect and kindness.
I won't go into details, just sayin I'm grateful today.

I hope you are all having a good week . Please join us at Lee Anna's  "likes" post on Thursdays:Not Afraid of Color.  We all look forward to the posts!

  1. I saw A Chorus Line years ago on one of our 2 trips to New York-loved it. What a great day out you had and all the better to share it with family.
I too admire those kids...reminds me of the women in Ireland-the troubles there stopped finally when the women decided enough was enough. They need to understand just how powerful they can be.
Sounds like you have a great start to March, Mary.

  2. Hi Mary,
You pillows look great on your sofa, and of course are a nice compliment to your quilt. Your baking always makes me hungry and wanting to bake myself! Unfortunately, if I did that we would eat it. Although if I made something Friday night, I could send it along with Dominic after he leaves on Saturday morning. Maybe a nice pan of brownies since yours look so good! ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. I love the pillows you made to go with your quilt - they look great! Glad you found a good baking mix, too. I know that can be really challenging. Sounds like a fun girls' day out! I also have to tell you that I loved the article you linked up in your last post - she wrote that so cleverly. I also admire those kids from Florida - have you read about their government teacher? I think he really helped to empower them!

  4. Yep, like I said to Micki, those kids will grow up and have opinions and vote. One day things might change...

  8. Amen to this! 'Nurses at the doctor's office who go way out of there way to treat us with respect and kindness.' The receptionists at our Doctor Surgery have recently retired. They had been there so long they seemed to think they had first and final say. or never thought they could possibly find a way for you to get an appointment. Grr. But now the new ones are actually pleasant and help you work through issues.
