Things I like Thursdays April 30

Greetings!

So, it’s getting harder to find things I like to post each week!  It’s not that I’m miserable -it’s just that nothing strikes my fancy some days.  You can only clean the house so much, do laundry so often and cook.  I haven’t sewn in ages- it’s just not there.  But, I read and watch tv for “enjoyment”. Can’t go outside cause we’re already in the 100’s; which means 75 at 7AM. The lockdown may start to end next week but we’ll see how that applies to us. Our new cases of the virus numbers are still rising but people are protesting against the lockdown so money usually wins.

I do have a few likes for this week:

1.  My KORU mini quilt.  This was started 2 years ago and put away so I was glad to finish it:

KORU is a New Zealand art style —meaning a spiral or beginning of a new life.  This is lots of tiny pieces of fabrics glued onto a background.   The circle is about 12 inches wide.

Here’s a close-up

It’s very colorful.

2. SOME GOOD NEWS by John Krasinski on You Tube.
This is a great show to watch for a pick-me-up.  First of all, he’s adorable and very talented but really has a lot of good news during this pandemic.

3. Dr. John Campbell on You Tube.  I think we have Jocelyn at Canadian Needle Nana blog to thank for recommending him awhile back.  What an educational channel on the Coronavirus! Non political.
I believe he teaches nurses.

4.  Michael Buble and his wife on Facebook videos.  Very cute couple and of course his singing is so soothing. But, they share their days with all of us. Very down to earth.

5.  World on Fire -on PBS Masterpiece, Sunday nights.  This is a World War II drama covering 5 countries and very interesting characters.  I was very surprised to see Helen Hunt (from Mad About You ages ago) cast as a journalist in Berlin.   Great show.

6.  Free movies on our cable in April.  We watched the latest release of “Little Women”  (I had been waiting to see it) and it was ok.  I still prefer the June Allison/Peter Lawford version. However, we watched “The Upside’ with Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart- what a great casting.  It’s based on a true story of a French billionaire quadriplegic and his caretaker. Excellent.  Then we watched the sci fi thriller “A Quiet Place”.  Now, you need to know we do not normally watch any scary movies.  But, I thought it was an interesting premise.  It was soooo Good. John Krasinski and his wife Emily Blunt star in it and there’s a sequel to come out later this year.

Wow- two  John Krasinski  mentions in one post.  Hmmmm.

So, now you have a peak into my life this past week.  I did try 2 new recipes- a three ingredient breadstick recipe and a bell peppers as nachos recipe.  Both were disasters.  Just sayin. Ew.
Oh, Thomas has been sick for the first time in almost 2 years with an upper respiratory infection.  I pray that’s all it is because he has underdeveloped lungs and we know what’s out there. He’s still playing but taking mounds of drugs. UGH. I’m not sleeping well worrying about him.

Other than that, things are good.  Hope you all are safe and sound!  Please join us for more “likes” at LeeAnna’s post. Not Afraid of Color

I like Thursdays April 23

Greetings!

How is everyone doing? Are you still at home or is your state getting ready to open?  We are staying closed for now as we don’t think we have peaked yet in Covid 19 cases. ( I can’t believe I just typed that sentence- how surreal).  We are getting cabin fever but realize it’s just too soon to visit anything or anyone.  Also, I and my family think we may have had the virus over the Christmas holidays when we all were so sick we had to cancel family Christmas till Jan 20th.  My son had pneumonia at that time  and didn’t know it! Thankfully, our governor is keeping things closed at least till May 15th.

Anyway, onward and forward.  We are done with Spring already-in the 100’s this weekend and for the next 5 months so I can’t go anywhere anyway.  I did play trucks with Thomas in the driveway for and hour and we were happy.  He really doesn’t grasp the whole virus thing but is happy to be home with dad everyday for school.  Dad is learning A LOT  about computers and software. Lol

Here’s a list of my “likes” for this week:

1. Cutting my hair.  Many years ago I cut my own hair but this time I was scared due to my age, all that brings to the old body and being able to manage the scissors behind my back.  LOL

Not great but not bad!  My hair was driving me crazy on my neck.

2.  Painting again.  Thanks to CEECEE creations, I tried a new type of painting.

The project was circles and lines.  The bottom photo is called “Stellar”. The first photo is a close up of one of the circles.  Here are some more close ups:

It was so fun and way out of my comfort zone to paint and doodle this way.

3.  Photos of Thomas having fun doing new things

Mom finally convinced him making cookies was fun- this makes me so happy that he enjoyed it.

Helping Dad wash the van was new, also.  In the past, we have asked Thomas to try these new things but he would say no.  Now, he’s very interested in engaging in life events.  We are so happy.

So you can see we are finding joy in everyday life.

Things I like Thursdays Apr 16

Greetings!

It’s been over 30 days self isolating and it’s starting to get old- just sayin.  But, we have it better here than most due to the nice weather! Sorry guys.  Just remember-in about 2 weeks we will be inside for 5 months due to the heat.

A couple corrections from last week (including a spoiler alert).  That book I recommended was a tear jerker.  Also, I have not  been able to find my favorite tea (Twinings lemon ginger)so I had to order it online and paid $10 a box due to shipping!!!  Oh well, I’m worth it.

Other than that, things are fine.  I am still ordering groceries by “pick up”.  And, most items I request are in stock.  A few things I ordered from Amazon took much longer than usual but at least they had it.

Here are a few likes I’ve had this week:

1.  This video on You Tube. Seal slapping!

https://youtu.be/sBCeHJ9eh_8

I sure hope this works for you-I just felt it was cute.

2. My favorite tea mug
I know- it’s a snowman-but here that’s a good thing.  Heehee

3.  Corona virus fabric masks for going out.  I tried making one but it was so uncomfortable. And, there were gaps on the sides.

So, I was able to get some made by a nurse thru a friend which are much better.

They fit good on me or my brother .  But, I’ve been using the paper ones to go to the pharmacy   for meds.  I already had the paper ones when I got sick last Dec and Jan.  They are so much more comfortable if I’m also wearing oxygen.  It’s a process.
BTW- we (the family) have been wondering if we had coronavirus in December and January because we were all so sick for weeks!

4.  Tuna Croquettes

So the photo is not great- they look like pancakes.  But, they were really good with tartar sauce, rice and zucchini for dinner the other night.  Growing up, my mom made salmon cakes on Fridays so I just figured I’d make tuna cakes.  It was a nice change of pace and everything was in the pantry to make them. Oh- it was very quick, too. Here’s the link. https://pintsizedtreasures.com/simple-tuna-croquettes-recipe/.

5. Thomas coloring eggs via FaceTime.

That is one happy boy coloring Easter eggs in the colors of basketball teams.  We finally figured out FaceTime, so we’ll be using that in the future. It’s fun.

I hope everyone had a nice week in this difficult time of lockdown.
Hang in there !

Things I like Thursdays April 9

Greetings!

I’m back!  Sorry I missed you last week- I was sick. Much better now, thank you. Here is a list of my likes for this week ( they are coming harder to find, just sayin):

1. Making Spring  Cards.  https://youtu.be/c3nuF5lTQn0I traveled thru You Tube to ItsybitzyIndia for Pretty and Simple Watercolor cards.  The woman is so talented and easy to follow.  This is my sample.

2. Lemon Ginger Tea

This is the best.  But, it’s hard to find so -good luck. It’s not bitter like some ginger teas.

3.  Udi’s Chicken Parmesan.  It’s frozen and just the right size for 2 people.  Good as any restaurant and great to have in the freezer when I don’t want to cook

The second photo is after it’s heated up in the microwave. It’s really  yummy-and Gluten Free.
Just for the record, I’m tired of cooking and planning so many meals.I’m scared to get take out, too.  I’ve only done it twice.-take out that is.

4. Free time.  When I got stomach sick I got behind on housecleaning, grocery shopping and making Easter cards for the kids and tried to catch up in the last few days.  But, I also gave myself permission for Free Time so I could just sit and read.  It was wonderful.  I am currently reading Me BeforeYou by Jojo Moyes.
I tried pasting a photo of the book, but it just wouldn’t work.

It’s a romance with a quirky girl who becomes a caregiver of a  young man wheelchair bound.
It’s very enjoyable.

5.  Easter cards for the kids.

This one was for Thomas .  He liked the play on words.

Inside says-“Some bunny loves you-me.”

Well “peeps” that’s it for me today.  Hope you are healthy and happy in our new normal.  UGH!

We are fine and immediate family is fine.  Sure hope it stays that way.  Happy Easter, Happy Passover.

Take care
Mary
