Things I like Thursdays Sep 10

 Greetings!

September is just flying by and I’m starting to think about Christmas gifts.  Good grief.  The 115 degrees are gone (knock on wood) and this morning it’s in the 70’s.  But, I can’t go outside due to the pollution.

I can’t even.

So, I’ll find good stuff to do inside. Here’s a list of my Inside likes for this week:

1.  Current books:

There’s nothing like delicious pastries and a murder.  Thus is part of the Bakeshop Mysteries and they include recipes.

This was an appropriate title based on the three sisters with their romantic (not realistic) memories of their brother. I really enjoyed this book till the ending when it sorta petered out. Weird.

2.  CLEAN AIR.


This is not. Our mountains disappeared!  They are only 10 miles straight ahead from this spot by my house.  We have smoke from California fires and our own fires.  You can’t even see the outline of the mountains. This is a first.

3.  Flowers and leaves painting 


I was kinda foolin around using black with colors and delicate flower petals.  I don’t think the black works but I’m glad I tried it in my journal. 2 hours of relaxation. 

4.  Nightstand toppers for my daughter.


Two of these will go with the dresser topper. They are about 15 x 26 each. All made from fat quarters, charms and jelly roll pieces. 

5.  New show on You Tube: Home Is Where The Art Is.




This is so interesting. People choose and pay for a piece of art made for them by an artist. I apologize if the video doesn’t work but you can go to YouTube  and type in the title. There’s a whole series of them.

    I love your painting! I wish that was my talent, but we all have different ones.

    I love clean air too! We generally have blue blue skies and little pollution, but we have had fires lately. The smell can be choking.

    I like the black with the flower petals! “I’m no artist, but I know what I like” was something a friend used to say!
    The smoke is really bad everywhere this year. Our cooler weather has helped our air quality! But I saw picture from my SIL’s sister in San Francisco area. Yikes!

    Not seeing the mountains when you know they're right in front of you is scary! We had that happen here in Boulder for a day or two and it's unnerving. I hope the smoke eases up soon in your area.

    oh the black works... yes maam. You could print that on fabric and turn it into something quilted it's really graphic. Our mountains have gone missing for many weeks now too... sad.

    I just bought a new journal for sketching. LOVE the art you've shown and I should start with something like that. Art AND journaling about my hikes. I'm glad the air has cleared some! Hugs!

    Hi Mary! Oh, I love the Ellie Alexander book series about the baker/bake shop. I'm so sorry about the wild fires and poor air quality. I pray every night that they get all of the fires under control soon. Your flowers and leaves painting is gorgeous!! You have such a talent and I'm glad you decided to explore and expand it.     I think the whole western US is full of smoky air and hazy skies. We even had ash falling in our neighborhood the other day from the closest fire! I'm glad you found fun and relaxation in sewing, painting, and reading this week, Mary. I love bedside tabletopper!

    Wow, the weather is crazy still. Very sorry about that smog especially for folks like you with lung issues. So many fires! You are doing so well with your flower painting. Coming along don't you think. Those table toppers will be perfect. Happy Reading, Mary.

    Love the nightstand toppers. I like your drawings, they remind me of cherry blossoms. Wow the sky is awful looking. Hope it clears soon, but glad the temperatures are lower.

    That's crazy you can't see the mountains. It's like it was photoshopped! I really like your flowers. That nightstand topper will look nice when it's done!

    How refreshing it must be to have lower temps after all that heat. And while your mountains may be missing, your air looks clearer than the CA and OR red skies I've seen posted. Those are really scary. I like your flower painting. It's good to experiment. And I'm sure your daughter will enjoy the bedside table toppers. We have nice cool autumn temps right now and no stormy weather in sight. I'm finally getting a long overdue baby quilt ready to be quilted.
